Important details about NEET 2024 exam

  • Number of Questions: Total 200 MCQs out of which maximum 180 MCQs must be attempted. 
  • Exam Mode: Offline mode only (pen and paper-based OMR sheet mode). 
  • Type of questions: Multiple choice questions with 4 options having 1 correct option. 
  • Duration of Exam: Time duration is 3 hours 20 minutes. 
  • Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany & Zoology)
  • Language: The question paper is asked in 13 languages English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and Punjabi.

NEET 2024 Application Forms

Application forms for the upcoming NEET 2024 exams are soon to out now on the official website. Just like the previous NEET 2023 exam, the NEET 2024 exam will be also conducted in mid week of May 2024. Important tentative dates are mentioned in the below table. Please note that these are the tentative dates for the NEET 2024 exam. The confirmed dates will be reflected as soon as NTA releases the Application forms.

NEET 2024 Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational qualification: Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects from a recognized board.
  • Qualifying marks: Candidates belonging to the General category must have scored a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology in their Class 12 or HSC examination. Candidates belonging to the Reserved category (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) must score a minimum of 40% in the qualifying examination.
  • Age: Candidates must be at least 17 years old as of December 31 of the year they are admitted. There is no upper age limit.
  • Citizenship: Candidates must be Indian citizens or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI).
  • Number of attempts: There is no upper limit on the number of attempts for NEET. 

These eligibility criteria can be changed by NTA. However, same criteria is being followed from last years. 

NEET 2024 Exam Pattern

NEET exam contains four subjects. Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. Questions of all four subjects are devided into two sections. 

  • Section A contains 35 questions all carrying +4 marks for correct answer and -1 negative marking for every incorrect answer. 
  • Section B has 15 questions from which students can attempt maximum 10 questions. Questions of section B also carry +4 marks for correct answers and -1 for incorrect.

Strategies of Preparation 

1. Understand the syllabus: The first step to preparing for NEET is to understand the syllabus thoroughly. The syllabus is available on the NTA website. Go through the syllabus carefully and make sure you know all the topics that will be covered in the exam. 

2. Collect study materials: Once you know the syllabus, you need to collect good quality study materials. There are many books and online resources available for NEET preparation. Choose the study materials that best suit your learning style and needs. 

3. Create a study plan: Once you have your study materials, create a study plan that is realistic and achievable. Make sure to allocate enough time for each subject and topic. 

4. Follow the NCERT textbooks: The NCERT textbooks are the most important books for NEET preparation. Make sure to study all the chapters in the NCERT textbooks thoroughly. 

5. Solve practice questions: Solving practice questions is essential for NEET preparation. There are many practice question papers and mock tests available online and in books. Solve as many practice questions as you can to get a good understanding of the exam pattern and the types of questions that are asked. 

6. Take regular breaks: It is important to take regular breaks while studying for NEET. Get up and move around every 45–60 minutes to avoid getting tired. 

7. Eat healthy and get enough sleep: Eating a healthy diet and getting enough sleep are essential for maintaining good physical and mental health. This is especially important during the NEET preparation phase.
